Making Strides for Breast Cancer

This morning a team of people from Owens walked for all those who have or had breast cancer. Supported by our students who raised money for the American Cancer Society as part of their service learning experience, fifteen of us, clad in specially made t-shirts, walked three miles in memory and honor of many. I walked in memory of Sally, Joan and Karen. You three will never be forgotten. I walked in honor of Kelli and Sue. Your strength and courage continue to inspire me. The walk provided me an opportunity to reflect upon the lives of individuals in my life who have been touched by breast cancer. Emotions of joy, sadness, and emptiness accompanied me along the 3.1 mile route. I remembered the courage battles and the dignified passing of several. I prayed that God would give wisdom to doctors and researchers so that perhaps one day we could find a cure, or more advanced treatment methods that could make the fight more successful and comfortable.
